Atiku Vows to Challenge Tinubu’s ‘Excesses’ with United Opposition Coalition, Aims to ‘Rescue Nigeria’

ABUJA, Nigeria – Former Vice President and presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has announced plans to forge a formidable and unified opposition coalition aimed at challenging the administration of President Bola Tinubu and “rescuing Nigeria.”

Atiku disclosed this development on his Facebook page, stating the coalition’s primary objectives are to hold the current government accountable for its actions and restore power to the populace.

The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate emphasized that the coalition would vigorously defend the right of Nigerians to freely elect their leaders and champion causes related to economic justice, political freedom, and national advancement.

“We are building a strong, united opposition coalition — one that will challenge the excesses of this administration, restore accountability, and return government to the people,” Atiku wrote. “We will protect the right of every Nigerian to freely choose their leaders, and we will continue to fight for economic justice, political freedom, and national progress. We are here to rescue Nigeria. And we will not stop until that goal is achieved.”

Sources indicate that several prominent political figures are involved in the formation of this coalition. These include former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, immediate past Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, among other key stakeholders.

A meeting involving Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai, and other figures reportedly took place a few weeks ago, signalling concrete steps towards the coalition’s formation.

Following that meeting, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, identified as a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), had publicly stated that the coalition’s strategy included ensuring President Tinubu does not secure re-election in 2027. He was quoted as insisting that the coalition would work to “return Tinubu to Lagos” in the next presidential election.

The development signals a potential realignment of political forces ahead of the next general election cycle, with key opposition figures consolidating efforts to present a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
